I’m writing this on the highway, sitting in the back seat, coming from a great weekend of celebrating my cousin’s wedding. I realize that it’s the most I’ve renewed myself in a while.

YES, stay on top of all things you want to accomplish. YES, start the one thing you’ve been thinking about for a while. YES, get in good with the processes in your life. But because things are up and running in your life doesn’t mean that you can’t or shouldn’t take a break to renew and revive yourself. When we put energy into situations, that’s energy taken away from us.

NEGATIVE.

Heal yourself first. The 'rest' will follow.

So what do you do to adopt new energy? When I say energy, there are multiple aspects of this. Physical, mental, and spiritual energy goes into restoring your body and mind.

Our physical energy is the “work” we do each day from our jobs, exercising, daily upkeep's, and  errands. Sometimes we don’t realize it, but the more we talk or try to explain ourselves to someone, it takes more energy. A small example from being a teacher is that it’s easy to become frustrated when I have to repeat the same thing to someone over and over again. So I have to remind myself to use the same tone of voice the third time as I did the first. This is rest as I preserve the energy I would have wasted if I had switched tones.

Mentally, our energy connects to what we think about daily. This could be thoughts of family, relationships, work, sprawls, to-do’s, etc. If you’re anything like I am, you constantly think about your to-do list, what you didn’t do and how you can do things better. Mental thoughts range from different points on any given day. If we’re being honest, we’re are going to think about ‘stuff’ regardless, but it’s better to deal with situations when thinking from a grateful and thankful mindset. First, think about all of the things you have. I recently made a post that said:

You are doing well in life if you have:

1. a roof over your head

2. clean clothes

3. food to eat

4. good intentions for others

5. a good heart

It was what I needed right then. I was feeling down about what I DIDN’T have and that post instantly made me realize all of the things I DID have. This is rest, it immediately cut all off of my negative thoughts.

Our spiritual energy is being consistent with what we believe in, and having a connection with God, the universe, and laws. Not only being consistent, but acknowledging and doing what’s necessary in life at given times. We don’t live our lives for ourselves. How selfish is that? We live to help inspire, encourage, share knowledge, and be examples to others when people are in need  - to financially support, be listening ears, and whatever else people and our loved ones need us to be during their time of need BECAUSE at some points in our lives people are that and more to us. We can rest in the fact that we are important to others, and also in fulfilling our purpose.
